Alex Ross Perry
Biography
Alex Ross Perry is an American filmmaker and actor. He has written and directed a series of feature films centred on unconventional characters and rife with the anxieties and joys of creation. His films have been internationally acclaimed at film festivals such as Sundance, Toronto, Locarno, Berlin, and others. He is most known for Listen Up Philip, which premiered in 2014 at the Sundance Film Festival and later won the Special Jury Prize at the 2014 Locarno International Film Festival, and Her Smell (2018), which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and screened at the New York Film Festival the same year. Besides being a prolific independent filmmaker with many of his fiction feature films internationally recognised, he also experimented with documentary, non-fiction, and music. His documentary-fiction hybrid, Pavements (2024), is an experimental musical biopic concert film that premiered at the 2024 Venice Film Festival.
